Olympic Flames

I just don't get it!
I hate waste. I hate polution. And I don't believe a word about Global Warming.
But what I can't get my head around is this massive Olympic Flame that burns for the whole duration of the competion. Isn't that a wanton waste of energy? Doesn't it cause a completely unnecessary dose of CO2 emissions to be unleashed into the already ailing Chinese atmosphere?
So where are all these self-righteous do-gooders when it comes to the flame?
I'll tell you where - they only spout bollocks when it suits them.
ps sorry for the break - I didn't feel very grumpy for a while.

Lepe beach is a favoured stop-off point during our regular bimbles through the forest on our bikes. Whilst enjoying the spectacular sunset a couple of weeks ago, I posed a similar question to hubby about the seeming waste of Calor gas that is the 'Fawley Flame'. Being both a mass storage device of jolly useful information and a former resident of Fawley Village, he was able to enlighten me thus: supply of Calor gas greatly exceeds demand (hence the relatively cheap price). It being a by-product of the various refining processes taking place at Fawley, burning it off 24/7 is viewed as the safest method of disposal. Despite hubby's logical assurances that this is the best way to deal with the issue, I still beg to differ. Why not supply a calor gas heater to every recipient of the Govt fuel benefit & issue contracts for the supply of Calor to these individuals? Would this not both represent a more efficient use of energy and save tax-payers' money in the long-run? As for global warming,I don't believe in wasting my time talking about something that no-one has yet convinced me actually exists.
